I’ve been a writer for most of my life, initially by entertaining my teachers and classmates with words. Since I grew up and joined the real world, most of my work has been in journalism, interspersed with commercial copywriting – notably at wine.com and the late, legendary Banana Republic clothing catalogue.
As a freelancer, I’ve focused largely on things I’m interested in: nature, the environment, wine, cycling, and photography. I’ve written about Alaska, Australia, Grenada, Ireland, Italy, the North American desert, and the California and French wine country, while interviewing the likes of Lance Armstrong, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Francis Ford Coppola, Paul Prudhomme, Ken Kesey, Bill Graham… the eclectic list goes on. Even copywriting has served to educate me about realities other than my own.
But for all the wide-ranging, stimulating stuff I’ve been able to do and see, I still somehow feel most myself when I’m at my keyboard, putting it into words.
